Map Ahead!
I love maps and think all fantasy books benefit from having one - or more. When I start a new book, I draw something rough just to keep myself straight when I'm writing. Early on, I learned the hard way how easy it is to get turned around and have to go back and proof directions. In my first book, I had people traveling in all damn directions but heading for the same town. East? West? They were all over the place.
After that I got in the habit of drawing something so I could keep it straight. Most times, my intro map looks like this:

Which is pretty tragic. But then once everything's done, I go back and turn my chicken scratches into something more attractive. So here's the official map for The Remembered Queen!
